Voting age - weekly blog provocation
Hi there and welcome back to Week 2. Saturday was the final day for voting in this years General Election and Jacinda Ardern and the Labour Governement will continue to be in power for the next three years.
Did you know that New Zealand was the first country in the world which allowed woman to vote? Before this only men 21 years of age and older were able to vote. Allowing woman to have a vote from 1893 was all thanks to a lady named Kate Sheppard. In 1969 the voting age was lowered to 20 and in 1974 it was lowered again to 18 years of age.
This weeks question to ponder is, do you think the voting age should be lowered? Some young people believe it should be lowered to 16. I look forward to hearing what you think.

Yes we should lower the ages so more people can vote.

ReplyDeleteI think we should lower it down to 12 years of age so other people can vote or teengers.Because I don't think little kids understand how to vote so I want it to be 12 years of age because they would understand now but kids wouldn't
ReplyDeleteWe could lower it down to 14 years of age because that would be very mature of age and they would understand voting than kids because there minds are very little and they and if someone says something than they repeat and I don't think they mature so I think we should lower it down to 14

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think it should stay 18 because that's when you're an adult and if you are younger than 18 you might make bad choices on what party to pick like national or labour.

ReplyDeleteHello Mrs Mclachlan, in my opion I think that the age should be lowered to 15 so that there are more votes around the world for different people. And also so that teenagers feel happy because they get to vote -Angel
